We may not have seen a lot of advertising for ‘Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’ since the first trailer debuted last year, but rest assured, the series is still coming to Freeform this summer. With a release date set for Thursday, June 7th, a new trailer has recently being released by Marvel.
The trailer shows the parallel journeys of Tandy and Tyrone as they begin to discover their powers, setting an interesting tone for the show and showing off some of the visual effects for their unique abilities as they begin to manifest. Ultimately, the trailer concludes with what looks to be the first meeting of the two protagonists, with each one radiating power from their hand, the white light of Dagger that she uses to create her weapon, the dark, cloudy energy of Cloak which he uses for his teleportation abilities. I hesitate to say more about their abilities as it has been continually stated that some things are going to be different than what is in the comics, but from this trailer at least, most of what we know about their powers at least seems pretty consistent with the comics.
‘Cloak and Dagger’ will hit Freeform this summer, and while once it was going to to be the first of a few shows to hit the network in the next year or so, with the new Disney Streaming service set to come out in 2019, it now appears that the other shows slated for Freeform might instead debut on the streaming service instead, meaning shows like ‘The New Warriors’ will only be available for those on the Disney streaming site. Of course, if ‘Cloak & Dagger’ does well on Freeform, it could open the door for other Marvel shows on the network, especially in the world of teenage superheroes, which already did moderately well on Hulu with ‘The Runaways’ as they have already received an order for a second season. At this point, only time will tell, but it is exciting to see so many new Marvel/ MCU shows coming out in the coming years!
