The 80s smash hit ‘V’ was already remade once as a two-season series on ABC in 2009 and now is slated to come back as a trilogy of “big-budget” films. For those who haven’t had a chance to see either of the TV shows quite yet, it follows humanity as a group of visitors from another planet arrive on Earth to promote peace but are actually lizard-like aliens wearing human disguises who have an appetite for our flesh. Yummy!
Desilu Studios, Inc is behind the new project and has the original series creator Kenneth Johnson all set to both write and direct the films. Currently, he is also slated to produce with John Hermansen (‘Gray Matters’) and Barry Opper (‘Critters’).
Of the project, Johnson has shared that:
“We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless – and timely – story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st century.
V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned.”
It sounds as if Johnson has a very epic tale in mind and likely will also be throwing in a bit of social commentary as well.
Desilu Exec VP Steven Posen also is a fan and thrilled to be bringing a new take on the franchise to life stating:
“V is a multi-billion dollar film franchise and merchandising juggernaut. We couldn’t be more excited and honoured to bring this film to the millions of devoted fans worldwide.”
With knowledge of the big reveal that these aliens aren’t human being quite readily available at this point, it will be interesting to see what Johnson has in mind for this outing.
Are you thrilled that Kenneth Johnson is getting to write and direct a trilogy of ‘V’ movies? Do you think the story will end up going more horror or political when the first of these films debut? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
