before we vanish

There aren’t a lot of alien horror movies these days, so I’ve been dying to see more of ‘Before We Vanish.’ While I usually prefer my alien horror in space, Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s newest film looks fresh enough to have me intrigued. The movie was recently screened at Cannes Festival and follows three aliens who have come to Earth for reconnaissance. The trio have taken over human bodies and are doing research for a mass alien invasion of the planet.

This isn’t a mind-control kind of takeover, but they leave alien-filled husks of the humans that used to be there. This doesn’t make blending in any easier. While this isn’t shown in this particular clip, we can see that they do have powers above and beyond those of ordinary humans though it isn’t clear as to the full extent of them.

Flipping cars is one thing, but this isn’t the kind of activity one might want to be pursuing if trying to spy on the human race secretly. Of course, it could just as easily be a test to see how we would combat such occurrences.

What do you think of the creepy factor from this first clip of ‘Before We Vanish’? Does this look like a horror import that you’ll be wanting to check out? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis

In his twentieth film, acclaimed horror director Kiyoshi Kurosawa reinvents the alien movie as a unique and profoundly human tale of love and mystery. Three aliens travel to Earth on a reconnaissance mission in preparation for a mass invasion. Having taken possession of human bodies, the visitors rob the hosts of their essence – good, evil, property, family, belonging – leaving only hollow shells, which are all but unrecognizable to their loved ones. Equally hilarious, thrilling, and profound, BEFORE WE VANISH reminds audiences of the continued strength of one of Japanese cinema’s most unique auteurs – and the value of the human spirit.

‘Before We Vanish’ Will Appear On February 2nd, 2018!
