“It’s time to make a movie and chew bubble gum, and I’m all outta gum!”
John Cena is in talks to star in ‘Duke Nukem’! The movie, based off of the 1991 released video game ‘Duke Nukem’ is a huge gamble to be made these days with how politically correct everything seems to be getting. With an action hero styled character pulled straight out of the height of the over the top masculine 80s action movies, it will be very interesting to see if they stick to that script. Of course, if they infuse the story with this character in a world where that kind of thought is a thing of the past, we could get a plot ripe for humor that would appease those who miss 80s action flicks and those who love making fun of them.
The movie’s rights were with Dimension Films for years who never made any headway with the project, and now it’s “game over” for them as they’ve let the rights lapse and Platinum Dunes has snapped them up. As Platinum Dunes are currently making movies with Paramount and Cena tends to work with Paramount studios (his films ‘Daddy Home 2’ and the upcoming ‘Bumblebee‘ are from this studio), this fit makes even more sense.
At this time, there is no writer or director on board, however, a search is currently underway for someone to tackle penning the movie.
If you’re unfamiliar with the video game, it put is in a world where the Earth has been invaded by aliens, and Duke Nukem is the only one who can save the planet. Politically incorrect, this hero smokes cigars, treats women like pieces of meat, and throws in a catchphrase at any given opportunity.
“Yeah, piece of cake” for Cena to act in and show off his muscles at the same time! “Now this is the force to be reckoned with!”
To put in my two cents, I am looking forward to this movie no matter how they spin it as long as they keep Duke true to character.
