Freeform continues to test new waters. First, they are delving into the Marvel Universe with ‘Cloak & Dagger’. Now comes ‘Siren’ a dark mermaid tail tale about a mysterious young woman named Ryn (played by ‘Game of Thrones’ alum Eline Powell) who shows up in the town of Bristol Cove, which, legend has it, was once the home to real mermaids. She is befriended by two marine biologists, Ben (Alex Roe, ‘The 5th Wave’) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola, ‘An American Exorcism’) who must discover “what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land — and are there more like her out there?”

Coincidentally, Powell appeared as “Syren #2” in last year’s flop ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’.
Emily Whitesell (‘Finding Carter’) serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb. The cast also includes Sibongile Mlambo (‘Lost In Space’, ‘Teen Wolf’), Rena Owen (‘The Last Witch Hunter’, ‘The Orville’), Chad Rook (‘Supernatural’, ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’) and Ian Verdun (‘Life’s A Drag’, ‘Lucifer’). Emily Whitesell directed the pilot, which was written by Eric Wald, who co-created the series with Dean White. The project was previously known as ‘The Deep’.
From Freeform:
Siren is the mermaid thriller you never knew you needed! The new one-hour drama will
be coming to Freeform in 2018. Siren takes us inside Bristol Cove — a coastal town known
for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl
proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious
turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean.
‘Siren’ will arrive on Freeform on Thursday, March 29 at 8pm EST. It just so happens that this date is International Mermaid Day. Will you be taking a dip with this new series?
