Well, things have certainly changed rapidly in regards to Tom Holland’s involvement with Sony’s ‘Venom’ movie. For months we had heard that ‘Venom’ was not part of the MCU, and if anything, would only be MCU “adjacent” with the studios deciding on whether or not to bring it in depending on how it fared with critics and at the box-office. Then this week rolled around and suddenly we had this rumor flying around that Spider-Man/ Tom Holland was going to actually be IN the ‘Venom’ movie, which was very exciting, and meant that, basically, ‘Venom’ was part of the MCU. Now, that rumor is being clarified. According to Collider’s Jon Schnepp:
“Tom Holland was on set filming scenes on Venom for at least two days as Peter Parker. I’m not saying that Spider-Man is in the film. When I say that ‘Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is in the film,’ I’m saying ‘Peter Parker is in the film.’ This is a cameo…I’m not going to say that anyone was lying when they say ‘Spider-Man is not in Venom. Because probably Spider-Man is not in Venom, Peter Parker is in Venom.”
So it is interesting word-play, one of those “have your cake and eat it too.” Amy Pascal and everyone else were not lying when they adamantly stated that Spider-Man would not be in ‘Venom,’ fully knowing that Peter Parker would be. Of course for some (like me), they are the same person, so that whole line of argument is nonsense but regardless, I am still excited to have Tom Holland in ‘Venom’ as it would not make sense to have ‘Venom’ without Peter Parker being involved somehow, especially since the character Venom only exists because of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man. His powers mimic Spider-Man’s and even the costume itself has a Spider on it.
What are your thoughts on Peter Parker making a cameo in ‘Venom?’ Are you excited? Does it make ‘Venom’ seem more like a movie you want to see now? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
