Josh McDermitt the walking dead

Whether you’ve started to think that the show is past its prime or if you’re still as “all in” as you were from the first episode, you’ve got to admit that ‘The Walking Dead‘ keeps the undead action coming fairly routinely, week after week.  As the show barrels towards its seventh-season midway point, it’s no secret to state the fact that many, many main characters have lost their lives in the post-apocalyptic battle with both the flesh-eating zombies and the other remaining humans who just can’t seem to get along with each other.

One character who joined the crew in the early seasons and is still around to tell the tale: Eugene Porter, played with redneck-y aplomb by Josh McDermitt.  Eugene’s story has been all over the board as the character works with whatever “good” or “bad” side is convenient to keep his constantly-frightened self alive for another day.

If Eugene had to go, though – how might it happen?  Or better yet: how might McDermitt want it to happen?  The actor recently addressed that very question:

“I don’t know that there is anyone more fun to watch do a physically intense fight scene than Andrew Lincoln. I told him and Greg Nicotero (resident badass) that IF Eugene were to die, I want to be choked out by Rick. Most actors have a ‘thing’ — a look they can shoot to the camera, and that’s how they make their money throughout their career. For instance, Jack Nicholson flashes his smile and they hand him a giant bag of money. I think Andrew Lincoln’s ‘thing’ is choking people in a scene. It’s so intense you think he’s really trying to choke the guy. And maybe that’s the secret? I don’t know.”

Well, I suppose in a world overrun by the living dead, there are certainly worse ways to go, yeah?

The current season of ‘The Walking Dead’ is airing on Sunday nights on AMC.
