The most infamous mutant of all is Wolverine and he’s been stuck in adamantium for a couple of years. That is, until last September’s ‘Marvel Legacy’ #1 where we were shown that he not only survived being covered and drowned in adamantium but somehow was able to break or out was broken out of his prison. Since that time, we haven’t heard a whisper from the mutant who is the best at what he does. Now that he’s back, not only does he have one of the Infinity Sones but we have to wonder why he was tracking it down and what secret he might be hiding.
While Wolverine won’t be fully featured in any comics until at least February, we’ve learned there are three “after the credits” appearances spread throughout January that he’ll be in. Some of Marvel’s most acclaimed artists are set to tease the whereabouts of the adamantium-clawed mutant with tantalizing teaser panels – and it’s all connected!
Because, of course, it’s all connected these days unless you’re part of the MCU or a Marvel TV show.
The next three chances we’ll see Logan ahead of his full return are:
- 01/03/18 – ‘Captain America’ #697
- 01/17/18 – ‘Mighty Thor’ #703
- 01/24/18 – ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #794
So far, there are no clarifications whether we’ll see Wolverine return full time in February of 2018 in every title under the sun as he used to be, or if this will be a new ongoing series, or if he’ll just be in more teasers for the time being.
Marvel SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort stated that:
“Fans have been speculating about Wolverine’s whereabouts since he first reappeared in MARVEL LEGACY #1—and the Marvel Universe is left just as unaware! So keep your eyes peeled as Canada’s favorite citizen makes his presence felt in titles all across the Marvel line! It’s all leading to something—but what?”
I strongly suspect that not everyone is going to be unaware of Wolverine’s return. We do know at least one person has seen him escape his adamantium prison so it wouldn’t be a surprise for others to know as well. Either those who are after the Infinity Stones, the all-seeing Loki (who recently proved he knows Thor’s secret identity of Jane Foster as he can now see everything), or someone else may have helped him escape.
Senior editor Mark Paniccia added that:
“Mystery has always been part of Wolverine’s DNA. He’s one of Marvel’s most interesting and popular characters. Fans are going to have a helluva ride finding out where he’s been and how he came back.”
This one is a bit vaguer. Does he mean where Wolverine has been since he escaped or perhaps he has been out and about longer than anyone knows?
What do you think Wolverine is up to in searching for an Infinity Stone and what he’s been doing after? Do you think this take on Logan will be the same hero we knew or will there be something deeper going on? What do you think will be his secret which is being teased?
