With Disney planning on launching a new streaming service, the easiest draw is to use their existing IP’s to bring about new content. That’s why fans everywhere should be thrilled to hear that we’re finally getting a live-action ‘Star Wars‘ series! With all of the shows from Disney, Marvel, and LucasArts slowly leaving their respective streaming services for this new one, original content will be the final draw for viewers and this one will have fans eager to hear more details!
Sadly, there isn’t much in the way of solid information at this time. We learned of this announcement from Disney’s quarterly earnings call where Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger started sharing details on the future of the company. We already knew about the new streaming service, learned about a new ‘High School Musical’, ‘Monsters Inc.’, and untitled Marvel series that will premiere, but the big takeaway was that a live-action ‘Star Wars’ would join the likes of ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ on the platform!
It isn’t clear if the new series will be exploring an existing area of the ‘Star Wars’ universe or like Rian Johnson’s new trilogy, explore a completely new and unique corner of a galaxy far far away. I know I’m beating the idea to death as fans everywhere already have but hopefully, this could be a canon Knights of the Old Republic series!
Honestly, I’m not sure if I’d prefer an ongoing series which could keep us vested for multiple seasons or if an anthology show that spends each season looking at a different area of the Star Wars universe would be more fun to see.
Do you think the new Star Wars series will explore something new or an area of the galaxy which we’re already hinted at? Which era do you hope it will focus on? Would you prefer an ongoing or anthology styled series? Share your thoughts below!
