Fans can’t be blamed for anxiously awaiting Brie Larson’s debut as ‘Captain Marvel’. There had been talk of her popping up in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ but it was decided that she deserved a better showcase for her introduction than getting swallowed up in the most heavily-populated superhero movie ever. Fans will just have to wait until spring 2019 to see the first Marvel Studios female solo hero in action, but that doesn’t mean she won’t become part of the larger action afterward.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said:
“Really, the focus now is on delivering Captain Marvel, and then bringing Captain Marvel’s story into the finale of everything we’ve started thus far.
“There are a lot of discussions, they all focus on the post-Phase Three, Avengers 4 film, so nothing that we’ll get into publicly. We’re really focusing on Captain Marvel and the work that [directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck] are doing. It’s going to be a big part of heading towards this epic conclusion and epic finale of 22 movies over the course of 10 years. That is focus for the next six movies we have to finish and get out.”
Captain Marvel will just be making her debut when Phase 3 of Marvel wraps up. She, along with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and (kind of) Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, will just have started making their impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when it would seem the current incarnation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes to an… end?
Most of the Marvel leading actors only signed on for a limited number of films. Most of them have fulfilled that. It’s unclear where Marvel Studios will go after this, especially considering that most of the main actors have expressed an interest in moving on. Can Marvel entice Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, etc. to come back or will they follow the example of the publisher and have others assume their roles? Or will they recast?
Whatever the case, there’s a good chance that Captain Marvel and Black Panther will lead a new generation of super icons after ‘Avengers 4’.
‘Avengers 4’ is currently untitled but is currently shooting. ‘Captain Marvel’ is due in theaters on March 8, 2019.
