With the rebooted ‘Spawn‘ ending up at Blumhouse Productions we know that the film will be put together as a low-budget horror thriller and now we know how that will play out. Producer Jason Blum recently shared his plans on how the comic adaptation will work in that environment though we’ve already heard some hints as to how that can happen. While the fact that Spawn himself won’t be front and center throughout the movie is something that will help, Blum has quite a few other tricks up his sleeve to keep costs down.
Such as:
“One of the things is we’re keeping the scope of the script relatively contained, so that’s the biggest way. I think the other way is he and I aren’t paying ourselves any money out of the budget nor will any of the actors, so that’s another way. We’re using our usual tricks!”
Budgeting tricks for paying the cast, crew, and production company which will likely come from the box office and home sales will be a key way that the studio can keep costs down. With their ability to deliver hit after hit in the horror genre it seems like this is a semi-safe bet for those who will be involved with the movie. I’m sure it also helps that Todd McFarlane is also set to both write and direct the film and almost seems keen to just have a solid film based on his creation make it to the big screen over making a quick buck.
As the movie will be following Detective Twitch Williams hunting Spawn or a man he likely believes is a serial killer at the offset of the film, that will be an easy way to keep the special effects budget lower as well.
