Jared Leto Blade Runner 2049

We know that Jared Leto loves method acting and really gets into his characters so to play the blind villain in ‘Blade Runner 2049‘ he actually did it without being able to see. The news came from director Denis Villeneuve though it really shouldn’t be too surprised with what we know about the actor. When filming ‘Suicide Squad,’ it was reported that he never went out of character while on set and even went so far as to send his co-stars gifts in the style he felt The Joker would enjoy sharing.

In ‘Blade Runner 2049’ he is playing Niander Wallace who is blind. To pull this off, he wore contact lenses which made him unable to see while wearing them. Of course, the blindness didn’t stop there for the actor. According to Villeneuve:

“We all heard stories about Jared, how he transforms into the characters, but even this didn’t prepare me for what was to come. He entered the room, and he could not see at all. He was walking with an assistant, very slowly. It was like seeing Jesus walking into a temple. Everybody became super silent, and there was a kind of sacred moment. Everyone was in awe. It was so beautiful and powerful — I was moved to tears. And that was just a camera test!”

Some have thought that he might be going a bit overboard with his performance though it seems that his fellow actors tend to enjoy it. That is, they enjoy it when they aren’t creeped out by getting rats in the mail.

If you’re wanting to know more about the villain for the film then this short is probably for you:

While I think method acting can be over the top, Leto seems to command the respect of his peers, and he does do a solid job onscreen.
