If you’ve been hoping that there would be a ‘Howard the Duck’ movie in production after his cameos in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ then you’ll be sorely disappointed if James Gunn has something to say on the subject. A tweet turned into a rumor which has been swirling that the famed director would be producing a film about the character and he has been pretty quick to shoot those down. While Howard might be one of Gunn’s favorite characters, there isn’t much going on with him cinematically at this time outside of his brief cameos.

With how many people must have been asking, Gunn tweeted:
There is NO Howard the Duck movie at the present time. There are a lot of comic characters I love but I’m not making films of them all. https://t.co/IYNzo9R2hq

As to how the rumor started? It was all about one tweet being blown out of proportion:
My thoughts are I’m not sure how this lone tweet can be considered “rumors heating up.” https://t.co/x42GT7egzE

Fans of the character and anything that Gunn touches will probably just focus on the first part of the response where he states that: “There is NO Howard the Duck movie at the present time.” Sadly, folks, I wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket and assume that they’re even considering one at this time. With how many titles are in various states of production features the leading characters we haven’t heard of any one-offs being looked at.
With even Warner Brothers and DC looking to possibly do their own one-offs if the ‘Superman: Red Son’ rumors are to be believed, then this might eventually be something we could hope for Marvel Studios doing. Just not quite yet.
Are you sad to hear that there are no current plans for a ‘Howard the Duck’ movie? Do you think if Marvel Studios started to do one-offs that this would be on their list? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
