Right now, all eyes are on the live action ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, but after that, Sony is moving into animation with a feature-length animated ‘Spider-Man’ movie which will focus on Miles Morales, the ‘Ultimate’ Spider-Man, who will be voiced by Shameik Moore, star of the film ‘Dope’ and the Netflix series ‘The Get Down’.

Also revealed to be part of the cast is Liev Schreiber, who voices the film’s major villain, although he didn’t spill on just who that was.  But he assured fans that this film will retain the essence of Spidey and even called the film something of a throwback.

“I think real hardcore Spidey fans will be able to follow this with great ease.  It will feel very familiar, in a good way, in a kind of throwback way.”

It looks as though the film is still being finessed as Schreiber said he won’t begin working on it for about a month.  He did reveal the reason why he took this role.

“It was my children, really.  People know me from things like Chuck and Ray Donovan, and I now have an 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, and I would very much like to do things that they can see so they know what their father does.”

Schreiber is married to fellow actor Naomi Watts.

This won’t be his first Marvel-based project, although that one is probably not suitable for children. He played Sabretooth in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, a film that was essentially negated by the time travel shenanigans of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

The untitled animated ‘Spider-Man’ movie will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey (‘Rise of the Guardians) with a script by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (‘The LEGO Movie’, the upcoming ‘Han Solo’ anthology film).  It has a scheduled release date of December 21, 2018.

Are you excited that Liev Schreiber has signed on as the villain in this movie?
