While ‘Transformers: The Last Knight‘ has been hinting that that Optimus Prime might be the Knight that is mentioned, we’ve also seen a lot of King Arthur mythology mixed into the previews and now know who they are actually referring to. It looks like the studio is trying to make things a little more interesting as we’re already in the fifth film in the franchise and the last before they start building upon a shared universe.

Some of what we have to share today will be considered spoilers for the film so transform and roll out of this post if you want to be surprised when the movie is released!

If like me, you thought because Prime was seen wielding a sword in many of the promos that he would be the Last Knight then you’d be gravely mistaken. King Arthur wasn’t a Transformer, and Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager won’t be either.

That’s right folks. Wahlberg is the Last Knight.

This little tidbit was revealed at CinemaCon when a little over 20-minuts of footage was screened. Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager first showed up in ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘ and the thought of him having such a title would have seemed a bit far-fetched at the time.

We learn this when Yeager finds a medallion on a Transformer who is dying. This medallion is a seal that was once owned by King Arthur, and when Cade comes upon it, he finds out he can use it and its power. We’re not quite sure what that power is as of yet, but the medallion seems to transform itself and wrap around Cade’s arm.

Cade’s goal? To unite the Transformers, likely the Autobots, and humankind in peace.

As for the King Arthur shots from the past in the trailers, it seems that it will be a flashback that shows King Arthur’s 12 knights of the Round Table fought alongside 12 transformers against their common enemies.

The World War II scenes will probably be a similar flashback.

Are you looking forward to Wahlberg being the hero of humankind? Share your thoughts on what we’ve learned from ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ below!

Synopsis:

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
