We’ve been trying to see video game to movie adaptations work for years and Joe Carnahan (‘The Grey’,’The A-Team’) believes that he’s cracked the code for his take on ‘Uncharted.’ With two major films on his plate with both ‘X-Force’ and ‘Bad Boys For Life’ through Sony, we know that he already has quite a bit to do but it sounds like his take on Nathan Drake will be an action-filled blockbuster which is perfect with everything else he has to work on. While he hasn’t given away any plot details of the film he did share a bit of the tone and scale of the movie:

“I probably wrote four of the biggest, fuckin’ craziest action sequences I think I’ve ever written in that movie. I used the Uncharted games as a template but not using anyone specifically, because those sequences have already been done beautifully. There’s no point in just transposing them to film, you’ve gotta come up with new shit, so that’s what I did. It was a great challenge, but it was a lot of fun.”

With the ‘Uncharted’ series having some pretty grand cinematics in some of the cutscenes and action sequences this could very well prove to be a feast for the eyes. Of course, we all had high hopes for both ‘Warcraft’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’ when they were each announced.

The interesting part is that it doesn’t sound like he’s being hindered by the studio on any of his decisions for the film. As films are often criticized for straying too far from their source material one will hope that Carnahan can capture the tone from the games without having to follow the exact plot of any particular one.

Are you looking forward to what Joe Carnahan does with ‘Uncharted’? Can you wait to see the four action sequences which he’s referring to? Share your thoughts below!
