There is so little that we know about Fox’s new X-Men themed live-action television series (as it doesn’t even have a name yet) but we do know that Blair Redford (‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’,’Satisfaction’) is the first actor to officially join the cast! Showrunner

Showrunner Matt Nix‘s show will be the second live-action mutant series to hit television with ‘Legion‘ having just premiered this week though as this one will directly interact with the X-Men it feels like there is more at stake to get it right. It won’t directly reference the films and likely the mutants in them but will have some of the X-Men appearing on the show from every hint that we’ve heard so far.

So, who is Redford playing? Right now he is going by the name of Sam and is “the strong-headed Native American leader of the underground network.” While the main mutant named Sam that comes off the top of my head would be Cannonball, if we’re going to go with the description listed above that isn’t the case at all. They aren’t even clear if he is a mutant but it sure sounds like Warpath to me even though the character will likely be used in the upcoming ‘X-Force’ film as he was hinted at in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past.’ With Danielle Moonstar showing up in ‘New Mutants’, another option could be Forge though he has never been one for a larger leadership role in the past.

I’m guessing it won’t be too much longer until we hear who he’ll actually be.

Nix has stated that he is able to use some mutants though the heavy hitters do sound as if they are off limits:

“It’s sort of designed to side-step questions like, ‘Where is Wolverine?’ There is a certain amount of those characters that I can use and I’m using some of those. Other characters I’m inventing but everything is invented with a nod to the existing mythology.”

With the series set to begin filming on March 13th, 2017 I suspect that we’re about to be hearing quite a bit of casting news popping up in the near future.

Are you looking forward to another live-action X-Men-related series? Do you think it will ever be able to crossover with either ‘Legion’ or the films? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
