Various studios will go out of their way to attract an actor for a film but a new featurette has shared exactly how badly Marvel Studios wanted Benedict Cumberbatch to appear as ‘Doctor Strange.’ We know the role is an important one as he’ll already be reprising his role in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and likely a sequel to his breakout film but what did Marvel have to do to lure the British actor into the role?

First, the background details are that Cumberbatch was always director Scott Derrickson‘s first choice but with the actor’s busy schedule, he wasn’t available during the slated production dates. With Ryan Gosling, Joaquin Phoenix, and Ethan Hawke all ending up as potential Sorcerer Supremes, it still ended up with Cumberbatch being the standout. They wanted him so badly that filming for the movie was pushed back to make his schedule work.

Yes, the amazing cinematic we saw in post-production ended up being massively cut timewise to bring Cumberbatch into the fold. The actor only had 36 hours from his last performance of ‘Hamlet’ to get to Nepal and begin shooting the film!

This is but a fraction of the special features and behind-the-scenes footage that will be available on the Blu-ray of ‘Doctor Strange’ when it is released on February 28th, 2017 and for anyone who loves to see how a film gets put together this is clearly ones to picku up.
