Remember when Netflix first ventured into the realm of original content? At the time, we could expect ‘House of Cards’ in the winter, ‘Orange is the New Black’ in the summer, and ‘Hemlock Grove’ whenever we actually remembered to watch it. Since then, the monolithic streaming provider’s lineup of original productions has grown to the point that it sometimes seems we can hardly go a week without either a premiere, a trailer, or some sort of announcement. The latest of these is a trailer for the upcoming series ‘Santa Clarita Diet’.
Created by Victor Fresco, ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ is dark comedy series that follows Sheila and Joel, a married couple living in the titular Los Angeles suburb. The two live fairly mundane suburban lives as real estate agents, but things take a dark turn – though not in the way you might expect – when Sheila dies. Though she gets better, it turns out there are some minor side effects, including a hunger for human flesh. But don’t worry, she swears that all of her meals had it coming!
The trailer, which can be found below, is a thirty five second spot modeled on the sort of trendy, celebrity endorsed diet advertisements you might see on daytime TV. It begins with series star Drew Barrymore promising to share her secret to staying fit and feeling great, though things quickly take a turn when Barrymore mentions that her diet lets her eat “whoever” she wants. See for yourself:
In addition to Barrymore herself, ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ stars Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson, Ricardo Chavira, and Skyler Gisondo. All thirteen episode of the series’ first season will arrive on Netflix on February 3, 2017.
