After a bit of a break for the holidays, Agent Phil Coulson and company return to ABC tonight for an all-new episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. And after the events of the midseason finale, the agents have to deal with a new threat that’s attempting to take them down from the inside. However, it appears that highly advanced androids won’t be the only problem plaguing the team during the second half of the fourth season.
Although before we get to that, we have a brand new clip from the upcoming episode titled ‘Broken Promises’. In the sneak peek for tonight’s episode, Director Mace and Agent Coulson outline their strategy to eliminate the Darkhold, which includes wiping the memory of the android Aida. But thanks to some lingering shots on a certain “person”, one could get the idea that this won’t go as smoothly as planned. You can check out the clip below followed by the official synopsis of the second half of the season:
On the heels of their encounter with Ghost Rider, their strangest phenomenon yet, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suddenly find themselves up against a myriad of new and ongoing threats: The anti-Inhuman Watchdogs are gaining political influence with Senator Nadeer, and uniting behind a mysterious benefactor. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the team, Aida has kidnapped Agent May and replaced her with a Life Model Decoy. Aida’s evil plans for May and the team remain a mystery.
That’s definitely enough to keep S.H.I.E.L.D. busy, but apparently there’s even more in store for them this season. During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, executive producer Jed Whedon revealed that there is actually a third major story arc planned for season four following the LMD storyline. While he offered no hints as to what that third arc will be, Whedon did explain why they went with three instead of the usual two arcs this season:
“This year there’s three [story arcs]. It’s based on our schedule of how we’re airing. We like to run continuous, if that [is] possible, so this next [LMD] chunk will be a section and then we’ll be off for a while and there’ll be a third part.”
What do you think about the preview of tonight’s episode of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Do you have any ideas about the third story arc coming up later this season? And do you think that it will include the return of Robbie Reyes as Ghost Rider? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.
‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Henry Simmons returns on January 10, 2017 at 10:00pm EST on ABC.
