Matt Ryan is returning to the role of John Constantine thanks to The CW Seed.  Ryan starred in the poorly-rated fan favorite series ‘Constantine’ on NBC during the 2014-15 TV season, but the Peacock Network dropped the expensive show based on the edgy DC/Vertigo Comics supernatural character.  Stephen Amell, the star of The CW’s’Arrow’ even offered to guest appear on ‘Constantine’ to help bolster ratings, but red tape prevented that.  But after the cancellation of ‘Constantine’, fans urged The CW (among other outlets) to pick it up. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but Ryan did reprise his role on an episode of ‘Arrow’ during its fourth season.  In addition, Ryan provided the voice of John Constantine in the ‘Justice League Dark’ R-rated animated movie.

And he’s not done yet!  The CW Seed has ordered a ‘Constantine’ animated series with Ryan returning to provide the lead character’s voice.  This marks the second DC animated series on the Seed following ‘Vixen’ and like that series, this one will be comprised of either five or six ten-minute episodes.  ‘Vixen’ featured guest voice appearances by Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash and Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, as well as Emily Bett Rickards, Carlos Valdes, Katie Cassidy, Brandon Routh, Franz Drameh and Victor Garber, all reprising their roles from their live action super shows.  You can bet that ‘Constantine’ will likewise feature similar guest stars.

Of course, ‘Vixen’ star Megalyn Echikunwoke eventually made a guest appearance on ‘Arrow’ in the flesh, so the same thing could very well happen with ‘Constantine’ with the antihero returning to prime time for additional appearances.

The animated series was just announced, so it’s unknown when it will become available to view online.
