There has been a recent rumor floating around that James Franco (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’,’11.22.63′) would be starring in Ridley Scott’s upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant‘ and the actor might have just confirmed that he has a part in the film! Rumors have been swirling recently that he would be in the cast and is already listed on IMDB as Branson so this just seems to further reveal that he will be in the movie, though not likely with a major part. Franco is no stranger to genre work, even though he seems to prefer working in comedy these days so it will be fun to see him having a chance to flex his acting chops in such an iconic franchise.

So with the rumors floating around it was only a matter of time when the actor himself was approached on the subject and when talking about ‘Why Him?’ this topic, of course, came up:

“The news is out, I guess? Uh, I don’t know if he’s trying to trick me into talking about it or not. [Laughs] … I remember, when I was a kid, watching Alien for the first time, and that was huge. I still watch it. I just watched it in the past month over at Tarantino’s theater, and it… it’s such a good movie!”

While he didn’t straight out confirm it right away, moments later he did mumble “It’s great to be part of it”  before the interview interjected. You can watch exactly how he responds to the question in the video below (and listen carefully at the 1:04 mark):

While the rumor has him playing Branson, the captain of the Covenant and husband to Katherine Waterston’s Daniels, it also has him not having a lot of screen time. This means we’ll either be seeing him die off pretty quickly or that his role won’t have him interacting with the aliens that much.

In the meantime, two new images have been released from the film which you can check out below:
