With a mere two weeks to go until the film’s release, you might think we’d already seen all of the preview footage we were going to get. And in most cases, that might be a reasonable assumption. But Marvel loves to defy expectations, and defy them they have.
Normally, an article like this would center on a single piece of promotional footage. Maybe two it the marketing has been especially intense. But today? We have four videos for you. Two of them are standard promotional clips, while the others are an assortment of behind the scenes footage.
The first clip is a brief scene in which Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) banter while making their way through hospital corridors, giving us a sense of their history and how they relate to one another.
The second is an early scene between Strange and the Ancient One. Some of this scene has previously been included in the film’s various trailers, but it’s presented here in an expanded form that allows a proper introduction of Doctor Strange’s astral form, which the Ancient One literally knocks out of his body.
And finally, that brings us to the behind the scenes footage. What we have are two six-minute reels of footage from the set. Obviously this means that no visual effects are included, but also that the audio quality sometimes varies wildly from clip to clip. These are more interesting for the glimpses they provide into the making of the movie than for any specific element of the film that Marvel may wish to hype. Though the clips included are generally brief snippets of larger scenes and some are undoubtedly takes that won’t even make it into the finished film, some will and may constitute minor spoilers for the film.
The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Doctor Strange’ will land in theaters on November 4, 2016. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
