Costumes are always an integral part of conventions. From fan-made cosplays to the latest fashion worn by our favorite heroes in the pages of their comic books, you’re bound to find some impressive clothing around a con floor. But every once in a while, movie studios will roll out some costumes from the most anticipated movies of the year for fans to get a closer look. So if you are anxious to reenter JK Rowling’s wizarding world and maybe make your own costumes for ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, then this post is definitely for you.
During this year’s New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. displayed a number of costumes from the upcoming Harry Potter universe film at their booth on the con floor. In addition to Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander attire that can be seen prominently in promotional materials for the movie, attendees were also able to see outfits from Porpentina Goldstien (Katherine Waterston), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), and Percival Graves (Colin Farrell). Plus, each witch and wizard’s ensemble also included their wand. You can check them out in the gallery below, followed by the film’s official synopsis:
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident… were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
At first glance, these are rather impressive period costumes, but there are some small details that allow them to tell even more of a story. For instance, Percival Graves’ collar features some unique adornments in the form of those scorpion tie clips. Also, you might notice that most of the No-Maj Jacob Kowalski’s vest buttons don’t match. Each of these wardrobe elements might give us an insight into each character’s personality that we wouldn’t necessarily notice in the trailers or posters. Major props to the wardrobe department and pun very much intended.
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, David Chester, Samantha Morton, Carmen Ejogo, Jon Voight, Ron Perlman, and Colin Farrell breaks out of it’s cage on November 18, 2016.
