Now that Warner’s DC Comics film releases for 2016 are behind us, all eyes are turning to the studios next effort, ‘Wonder Woman’. And with that attention naturally comes all sorts of rumors.

One of the more prominent rumors regarding ‘Wonder Woman’ centered on co-star Chris Pine. Namely, Pine – who is playing Steve Trevor in the film – was rumored to have covertly been cast in multiple roles. If that sounds a little odd, that’s because it is. As you likely know by now, ‘Wonder Woman’ is a period piece taking place during the First World War, making Pine’s version of Trevor a World War I fighter pilot (whereas most adaptations set the character as a contemporary soldier of some description). Because Trevor has traditionally been Wonder Woman’s primary love interest and, (presumably) also because Wonder Woman is established in the present day DCEU by the events of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, a rumor took hold that Pine would be playing both the World War I Steve Trevor and a present day descendent of Trevor’s (also named Steve, in case this wasn’t confusing enough). If true, this would allow Chris Pine to return, supposedly as a love interest, in a present day sequel, regardless of the elder Trevor’s fate, a development that would have echoes of Captain America’s involvement with both Peggy and Sharon Carter. All of this was coupled with rumors that ‘Wonder Woman’ would take place across multiple time periods (with the exact number depending upon the source).

In an interview with the Huffington Post, however, Pine at last addressed that rumor. When asked by the interviewer if he would be taking any roles in addition to Steve Trevor in the film, Pine responded with a very succinct “no”. So that, it would seem, is that. In the same interview, Pine also offered the following comments when asked what fans could expect from the film:

It was fun to fall in love with Gal Gadot. It was fun to do some comedy. It was fun to do someaction. The part kind of asked for a little bit of all of it, so it was a good time.

I think what’s really fun and exciting about it… different about it, actually, is that there’s a nice love story at the center of an action film, and I don’t think you see that often in these kinds of films.

Directed by Patty Jenkins,  ‘Wonder Woman’ features a cast that includes Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Lucy Davis and Lisa Loven Kongsli. The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2017.
