the-burning-worldWhen ‘Warm Bodies‘ was released in 2010 it was not only critically acclaimed but even was able to quickly spawn a major motion picture deal and Isaac Marion has penned a sequel. ‘The Burning World’ will be the follow-up to his initial offering and fans of the original have been clamoring for more and only have to wait until February 7th, 2017 to be able to check it out. This isn’t the first time that Marion has revisited the series though as he had previously released the prequel novel ‘The New Hunger.’

The original novel followed the love story of R and Julie as the two came together for a somewhat modern, horror filled take on Romeo and Juliet. You know, with zombies as R was one of the flesh eating undead.

Atria books are bringing the novel to print and in it, we follow how R is making progress in returning to the land of the living. Being among humanity though is challenging as R is having to learn to read, write, speak, and maybe even love.

Of course, things aren’t quite that simple as not everyone is happy with the undead returning to life. It seems that someone, or something, prefers to have the world in a nice orderly fashion and if the hordes of zombies won’t behave as they should then something even scarier is going to start going bump in the night to return the new world order back into what it had become. R’s past comes back to haunt him as he looks not just to save himself but the woman he loves and the refugees that have followed his lead.

It sounds like we’re going to be in for a new action thriller that will once again be part human and part supernatural with an entirely new twist on the undead virus which we were introduced to in the first installment.

For fans of the film, there is no word at this time of a sequel is being developed.

Synopsis:

Being alive is hard. Being human is harder. But since his recent recovery from death, R is making progress. He’s learning how to read, how to speak, maybe even how to love, and the city’s undead population is showing signs of life. R can almost imagine a future with Julie, this girl who restarted his heart—building a new world from the ashes of the old one.

And then helicopters appear on the horizon. Someone is coming to restore order. To silence all this noise. To return things to the way they were, the good old days of stability and control and the strong eating the weak. The plague is ancient and ambitious, and the Dead were never its only weapon.

How do you fight an enemy that’s in everyone? Can the world ever really change? With their home overrun by madmen, R, Julie, and their ragged group of refugees plunge into the otherworldly wastelands of America in search of answers. But there are some answers R doesn’t want to find. A past life, an old shadow, crawling up from the basement.

‘The Burning World’ by Isaac Marion will be available digitally and in bookstores on February 7th, 2017.
