While it is true that we do not actually know when Neill Blomkamp will be given the green light continue to work on his ‘Alien’ sequel, it seems that he and star Sigourney Weaver are still chomping at the bit to get the project moving. And if you are a fan of any of the ‘Alien’ movies after Part 2, you might be disappointed to hear what they have in mind.
It seems that they are completely disregarding everything that happened in ‘Alien 3’ and ‘Alien: Resurrection’ and instead, branching off in their own direction in what you might call an alternate timeline that occurs after the second film.
According to the most recent statement by Weaver while speaking to EW about the 30th Anniversary of James Cameron’s original ‘Alien’ sequel, ‘Aliens,’ the actress had the following to say about the new sequel:
“It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie.”
Which is in line with what Blomkamp and Weaver herself said a little over a year ago about the film:
[Blomkamp] “My favorites are the first two movies. So I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”
[Weaver] “I always wanted to complete this story and it wasn’t really until Neill and I started talking that I said, ‘This is why we waited however many years its been.’”
