Over the past few weeks, a number of new stars have been added to The CW’s corner of the DC Universe. Characters are being added left and right to ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘The Flash’, and ‘Supergirl’ that could become game-changers, but the latest addition to ‘Arrow’ has the potential to turn Star City into a cosmic wasteland.
Throughout 2015, Stephen Amell found himself at odds with WWE Superstar Stardust. What started innocently enough as the actor attending an episode of WWE Raw evolved into a full on feud with the wrestler that resulted in a match at last year’s Summerslam event in Brooklyn. Even after the Prince of Dark Matter suffered a loss at the hands of the Emerald Archer, the rivalry continued when Amell won a Slammy Award for Celebrity Moment of the Year and the man formerly known as Cody Rhodes stole it for himself. The two squared off at a Dallas Comic Con panel a few months ago and another challenge was thrown down that teased another match between the two somewhere down the line. However, it appeared that the vendetta was forced to come to an end when Rhodes asked for and was granted his release from World Wrestling Entertainment back in May. Although, thanks to a recent announcement, we have learned that the grudge will simply move from the WWE Universe to the Arrowverse.
During their panel at Heroes & Villains Fanfest in New Jersey over the weekend, Amell revealed that Rhodes has been tapped as a guest star on an upcoming episode of ‘Arrow’. There was no word regarding the wrestler’s role in season five, but the star shared his excitement for his former WWE nemesis to step into his world:
“Before we get going, we have an announcement. We have a new guest star on ‘Arrow’ this year: Mr. Cody Rhodes. I’m so fired up for this guy. He and I haven’t really had much of a chance to talk about it but we’ve been friends for a little over a year now. I know that Cody has really wanted to get into the acting business. He went to LA, he read for a part, and his deal closed yesterday and the dude is going to be on ‘Arrow’ and I’m so fired up.”
Later, Amell posted this video on his Facebook showing the announcement along with the formal introductions courtesy of ring announcer Eden Stiles (aka Brandi Rhodes) and the opening moments of the pair’s panel that included stories of how they first met and how hard the Green Arrow can kick someone in the head:
The possibilities for Cody Rhodes’ character in the Arrowverse are pretty endless. He could be anyone from an iconic villain making his small screen debut (somewhat similar to fellow WWE alum Adam Copeland AKA Edge, who played Atom Smasher on ‘The Flash’) to a lowly henchman for former ‘Walking Dead’ star Chad L. Coleman’s Tobias Church. With ‘Arrow’ officially beginning production on the fifth season this week, there’s a chance that we’ll uncover Rhodes’ role sooner rather than later. But until then, feel free to leave your guesses in the comments below.
