While Batman was one of the few shining gems in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ it seems that Ben Affleck (‘Argo’,’Clerks’) is saying a solo film will be delayed if he doesn’t get a good script. We know that the planned movie is going to tell an original story with elements from the comics but this three-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker won’t be letting up on the quality just so that Warner Brothers can push out a new Caped Crusader movie.
Affleck was recently interviewed on the set for ‘Justice League’ on where the stand alone was in terms of being released and he stated that:
“I think they have a date for it. Although, I don’t know if I would necessarily be able to make that date because I don’t have a script that’s ready yet. So that’s my – my timetable is I’m not going to make a movie until there’s a script that I think is good because I’ve been on the end of the things when you make movies when you have a script that’s not good yet and it doesn’t pan out. [laughs]”
I’m sure he wouldn’t be referencing a past superhero role or two with that comment. Since the script is the key to us seeing Affleck as Batman not in a group setting he was asked about that as well and there is some good news on that front:
“I have a script, we’re still working on it, and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say. That’s something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It’s not just like, “yeah, that might be fun, let’s go try this out.”
I’m glad he’s taking his time with this one though I’m curious as to if he’s helping write his parts of it while wearing the batsuit. Fans of Batman deserve a solid movie and Affleck has the directorial chops to bring us one and was able to steal the scenes he’s been in so far as Bruce Wayne.
Are you annoyed that we have to wait longer for the solo ‘Batman’ film or are you glad that they are trying to make sure that it is done right? Share your thoughts below!
We’ll be seeing Batman show up next in a smaller role for ‘Suicide Squad’ on August 5th, 2016 and to put together the ‘Justice League’ on November 17th, 2017.
