steppenwolf

Warner Brothers has officially confirmed something that’s been rumored for a while and that is that the villain in ‘Justice League’ will be Steppenwolf.  Executive producer Deborah Snyder confirmed this, but admitted that the role had not been cast (even though the film is already filming) but that WB was close to finalizing a deal.  (Any casting choices?)

The nightmare sequence in ‘Batman V Superman’ teased the villain’s arrival, leading an army of flying Parademons.

A blacked out figure of Steppenwolf appears in the War Room on the set of ‘Justice League’, with the coloring removed to obscure his identity.  A scene featuring the villain will pop up in the deleted scenes of ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – Ultimate Edition’, helping to build toward next fall’s big showdown.  The scene has leaked and you can watch it below:

SteppenwolfIn the comics, Steppenwolf is the uncle of Darkseid and is depicted as a military tactician with no peer.  He debuted in ‘New Gods’ #7 in 1972 and like his New Gods brethren, was created by comic legend Jack Kirby.

In recent comics, it was under Steppenwolf’s command that Earth-2 was conquered and he was instrumental in the deaths of that world’s Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman (as you can see to the left).

It may be a bit surprising that Steppenwolf, a “general”, is being used as the Big Bad in ‘Justice League’ rather than his nephew Darkseid, who is the greater threat in the DCU, but maybe WB is following Marvel’s roll-out of Thanos, and building Darkseid up in a few films before unleashing him.

What do you think of Steppenwolf as the ‘Justice League”s big baddie?

‘Justice League’ directed by Zack Snyder, and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg and J.K. Simmons, hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
