If you’ve ever wanted to captain the U.S.S. Enterprise, then now is your chance! Well, kind of. Not really. But this is probably the closest you’ll ever actually get, and it’s all thanks to Ubisoft’s upcoming VR game ‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’! This week at E3 we got our first look at the new game from Ubisoft’s Red Storm division and wow does it look like a good time!
‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’ is an all new multiplayer VR game set in the same universe as J.J. Abrams 2009 ‘Star Trek’ film series reboot that immerses you and your friends directly into the bridge of a new Federation starship! Each player has a role to play aboard the bridge including titles like Captain, Engineer, and Tactical; with the only way to succeed being through teamwork!
In our first glimpse of ‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’, we’re treated to a video featuring some of your favorite former ‘Star Trek’ stars like Karl Urban (‘Star Trek’ 2009), LeVar Burton (‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’) and Jeri Ryan (‘Star Trek: Voyager’) checking out the game firsthand by diving right in on the action! The former ‘Trek’ cast members were all instantly astonished at the world they found themselves in using the Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch controllers. Here’s the video straight from E3-
Judging from this video, it looks like ‘Star Trek’ Bridge Crew was created entirely with VR gaming in mind, creating a world in which the player can become fully immersed in a unique social experience. Anyone could make a ‘Star Trek’ game, but how many could make one where you actually feel like you’re a part of the crew?
Here’s the full rundown of the game directly from Ubisoft–
Star Trek: Bridge Crew puts you and your friends in the heart of a starship, where – as officers of the Federation – every action and decision you make together will determine the fate of your ship and crew. Developed specifically for VR, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is the only game to offer a true-to-life level of immersion in the Star Trek universe.
In Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the Federation dispatches you and your crew to command a new vessel U.S.S. Aegis as part of a critical initiative. Your mission: explore a largely uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in hopes of locating a suitable new home world for the decimated Vulcan populace. The Trench contains stunning beauty and undiscovered wonders, but also strange anomalies and dangers yet unknown. The Klingon Empire is also active in the region, and their purpose is undoubtedly a threat to the Federation’s plans. It’s up to you and your crew to chart the sector to determine the Klingon’s aims, and to secure a peaceful Federation presence.
Set Phasers to stunned, because ‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’ sounds almost like it’s almost too good to be true! Luckily we won’t have to wait too long to see this game release! Trekkies, Klingons, and members of Starfleet Academy will be able to pick up ‘Star Trek: Bridge Crew’ this fall when it releases for all VR platforms!
