Luke cage

The next big Marvel Netflix series, ‘Luke Cage’ is now shooting to premiere this fall.  We know that one of the main villains– if not THE main villain– is Cornell “Cotton Mouth” Stokes, played by Mahershala Ali.

Now another baddie has been spotted filming.  ‘Boardwalk Empire’ alum Erik LaRay Harvey has been photographed in the role of Diamondback:

Casting an African American male to portray a Caucasian female is a rather bold move but…

Willis_Stryker_DiamondbackEr… actually it appears there was another earlier villain by the name of Diamondback.

Harvey is portraying Luke Cage comic book foe, Willis Stryker, a former member of The Rivals a gang which also included Luke Cage (when he was known by his birth name Carl Lucas) and “Shades” Alvarez (who will be played by Theo Rossi on the show).  It was Stryker who framed Lucas, which resulted in him going to prison, where he was the subject of the experiment that gave him his powers.

In the comics, Diamondback doesn’t have any powers but is an expert with a knife.

Harvey’s costume is a fitting “real world” take on Diamondback’s comic book suit, with more of a standard military-style jumpsuit.  But the same ribbed undershirt and flared collar are intact.  The live action version is sporting some sort of helmet.

One more interesting image shows some sort of device on the back of his jumpsuit that appears to be lit up.  Then again, it could just be light reflecting off.

Mike Colter stars as the lead character on ‘Luke Cage’ with Mahershala Ali as Cornell Stokes a.k.a. Cottonmouth, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Theo Rossi as “Shades” Alvarez, Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Frankie Faison as Pop, Jaiden Kaine as Zip, Darius Kaleb as Lonnie, with Kellan C. Wingate and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.

‘Luke Cage’ becomes available to stream in its entirety on Friday, September 30 at midnight PT   on Netflix.
