Ben Alleck‘s portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman in ‘Batman V Superman’ was slightly divisive, but many fans were so impressed that they named Affleck as their favorite screen Batman to date.  Not surprisingly, Warner Brothers has confirmed that Affleck’s Batman will fly solo in a movie with Affleck himself writing and directing.  Collaborating with him will be DC Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.  NOT part of the process?  ‘Batman V Superman’ director Zack Snyder.

According to the latest RUMORS, Affleck and Johns will have “complete creative control” over the new ‘Batman’.  Presumably, that means Snyder allies Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven will likewise not have any say in the new movie.  They could still serve as silent executive producers, though.

Further more, it is believed that Affleck will take the lead on this picture with Johns acting as a consultant, with his expansive knowledge of DC history.

Warner Brothers has two movies scheduled for next year, ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Justice League – Part One’, with ‘The Flash’ and ‘Aquaman’ due in 2018.  ‘Justice League – Part Two’ and ‘Shazam!’ are due in 2019, to be followed by ‘Cyborg’ and ‘Green Lantern Corps’ in 2020.  But, the studio has also staked out two extra dates, one in October of 2018 and one in November of 2019.

Though there are some additional DC properties that have been rumored to have movies in development including The Sandman and The Metal Men, considering that the DC Expanded Universe is off to a slightly rocky start after ‘Batman V Superman’, it might be safer to stick with a proven commodity and Batman is Warner Brothers’ MOST proven box office drawn.

This is just scuttlebutt at the moment, but Affleck’s directorial efforts ‘The Town’ and ‘Argo’ received multiple awards nominations, with ‘Argo’ winning Best Picture of the Year at the Academy Awards.  So it wouldn’t be unfounded to give him as much freedom as he likes with this film, especially with Johns at his side.

What do you think about Johns and Affleck being in charge of the ‘Batman’ solo flick?  Are you disappointed that Snyder won’t continue his vision?
