To the world at large, Black Widow is the most famous female Marvel hero, having been portrayed by Scarlett Johansson in four different hit movies.  Oddly, the comic book source character has rarely headlined her own book, typically appearing as a member of The Champions and The Avengers and as a supporting character in books like ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Captain America’.  But considering her elevated visibility thanks to the movies, it makes total sense for Marvel to place the former Russian spy in her own action-packed series and they have drafted an Eisner Award-winning team to make that happen.

The team who recently received raves for their run on ‘Daredevil’ are now turning their attention to a character that used to be his lover.  ‘Black Widow’, launching in March, will be written by Mark Waid and features artist Chris Samnee, colorist Matt Wilson and letterer Joe Caramagna.

Here is the description of the new book:

She has spent years gathering secrets. Knowledge and intel on friends and enemies alike. But when some of those dark secrets mysteriously begin to go public, no one is safe! Now, Natasha has become the one thing she never thought she’d be – public enemy number one! Betrayed by her former accomplices, with friend and foe alike nipping at her heels, all bets are off. With a lifetime of training and ingenuity at her disposal, she’s out for answers, and she’s going to get them any way she can. As long as S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t get her first!

Not only will Samnee provide the interior artwork, but the comic’s cover as well, but to mark this special release, Marvel is releasing FIVE additional variant covers by Skottie Young, Phil Noto, Kevin Wada, Tula Lotay and the latest in their series of Action Figure Variants by John Tyler Christopher.
