‘Fans of ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ should be thrilled to hear that not only is CBS Films finally pushing the project forward, but that Guillermo del Toro is on board to produce the film! While not confirmed at this point, it looks as if he might also be on board to direct which makes sense as he has plenty of time with ‘Pacific Rim 2’ on hold. We found out that he was officially attached when del Toro tweeted that he was on board.

Del Toro officially announced his involvment with the following tweet:

Del Toro will be producing the film with Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, and Elizabeth Grave while John August is credited with adapting the first book for the big screen.

While del Toro has a huge fan following for his work, I wouldn’t get too excited about him directing the project quite yet. He currently is scheduled to tackle the remake of ‘Fantastic Voyage’, has to work on the third season of ‘The Strain’, star working on ‘Trollhunters’ for Netflix, wants to remake ‘Pet Sematary‘, and insists that ‘Pacific Rim 2’ is still happening. Not only that, but he tends to jump between projects rather frequently over the past few years (‘Justice League Dark‘ anyone?).

We already know that with del Toro on board the movie should have a unique brand of horror involved which was confirmed last year by August:

“I think [the movie will be] quite scary. Without spoiling things I will say that the illustrations are an incredibly crucial part of the book and they are an incredibly crucial part of the movie. The difference between those original illustrations and the second set of illustrations are an important aspect of the movie experience.”
