Fans of Guillermo del Toro’s giant creature feature starring robots fighting oversized monsters are going to be happy that ‘Pacific Rim 2‘ still seems like a go! We’ve recently heard that the sequel to ‘Pacific Rim‘ was “off the table” after it had been halted indefinitely and del Toro’s time was so freed up that he was going to be working on ‘Fantastic Voyage‘ with James Cameron and David Goyer. While all of that might be true, del Toro has now said that he would stay with the film “one way or another.”

With how many projects he has been part of and left at this point that is a good sign since I’d hate for him to lose interest and just jump onto something else.

Here is exactly what del Toro tweeted out:

The good news is that Legendary is currently looking to be purchased by the Chinese conglomerate Wanda. While this might not be great for some projects that Legendary has on the table, we all do know that the only reason the sequel made possible in the first place was the high ticket sales in China. In fact, the movie did better in China than any other region in the world so it would make sense that they would make sure this one sees the light of day. In the meantime we know he’ll be working on ‘Fantastic Voyage’, ‘Trollhunters’ for Netflix, a vampire film titled ‘Silva’, and ‘The Strain’ returning for a third season.

So while I wouldn’t expect the film to be greenlit tomorrow it wouldn’t surprise me if things started moving forward once Wanda makes their purchase.
