Potential ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Spoilers below, BEWARE!

Even though it is still a few months away, fan anticipation for ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ is high, with fans theories rampant on the internet on what the long-term outcome of the “Civil War” on the greater MCU is going to be, especially in terms of whether or not certain title characters would be assassinated at the end, as happens in the comic. Fortunately for us, Crossbones actor Frank Grillo recently made an appearance at Wizard World New Orleans, where he took time out of his day to discuss his character and his origins, and whether or not he knew the plans Marvel had for Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones in the MCU post ‘ Winter Soldier.”

“When we sat down with Marvel, they knew it was an origin story. They weren’t quite sure where they wanted to take Crossbones but they knew they wanted Crossbones in some of these films but they definitely knew that that’s where they were going with the character…Unlike being Captain America or one of the other super heroes who are absolutely essential for the stories, you never know with the villains. They could use you, they could not use you, you know. You sign on for a few movies and if they wanna use you, I’m available.””

As far as whether or not Crossbones would fulfill his comic destiny and assassinate Captain America at the end of ‘Civil War,’ Grillo had the following to say:

crossbones killing cap” I spoke to Brubaker, who created Crossbones who’s a great dude, and I got some of the back issues and stuff and read the origins of Crossbones and where he came from. The thing with Marvel is they don’t always follow to the tee what the character did in the comic books. They use him in different ways. You never know what’s gonna happen. I know Crossbones in the comics kind of offs Cap at some point and we’re probably not gonna see that happen. I’m not gonna kill him yet.”

As for Crossbone’s motivation in ‘Civil War,’ Grillo goes on to explain how his character was somewhat torn in ‘Winter Soldier’ about whether to side with Cap or Hydra, as he did legitimately become friends with Steve Rogers. However, after everything that went down at the end of ‘Winter Soldier,’ (almost besting the Falcon and then being caught in the collapse of SHIELD Headquarters and permanently scarred with burns) Grillo has confirmed that Crossbones is now solely out for revenge:

“Winter Soldier let off and I was in bad shape.  I was just about to kill the Falcon – which is not hard. I think revenge is a big part of… Whatever Rumlow was feeling as far as being torn between which side he should be on, which I think he was, is gone now. I think he’s out for one thing and one thing only and that’s to revenge what’s happened to him.”

Do you think Marvel would ever let a scene like Crossbones killing Cap ever happen in the MCU? Do you think it could still happen at the end of ‘Civil War?’ Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
