Fans of Mark Millar’s ‘Superior‘ have some good news as Fox has hired newcomers Brandon and Phillip Murphy for the big screen adaptation. Their first two works which are in production are the horror film ‘Transference’ and an interesting musical piece in ‘Exile on Main Street: A Season in Hell With the Rolling Stones’. Clearly something in these two scripts has caught the studio’s attention as they will be taking Millar and Leinil Yu’s classic work through Marvel’s Icon imprint and making it film worthy. Tarquin Pack and Matthew Vaughn are also on board to produce. Vaughn had optioned the property in October of 2011 and Fox only came on board in 2014 where things seemed to have stalled until this announcement.
Hopefully with two writers attached we’ll finally see progress moving forward.
The source material is a seven issue series which ran from 2010 and 2012. It follows a 12-year-old athelte whose life is ruined when he finds out that he has multiple sclerosis. To cope with it he makes a deal with an alien monkey who allows him to become his favorite super hero ‘Superior’. Only, things go bad quick when the monkey is revealed to be a demon and in order to keep his newfound powers and freedom he has to sell his soul. The story is a very stand alone one and while it didn’t lend itself toa n ongoing series that doesn’t mean we couldn’t see some Hollywood magic being worked if profits and fandom encourage a second outing into the world that Millar had built.
There is no word at this time if this will somehow take part in Millar’s ‘Millarworld Universe which will include ‘Starlight.
Are you looking forward to Millar’s ‘Superior’ finally getting the big screen treatment? Do you think it can share the same success as some of Millar’s other works? Share your thoughts below!
