The DC Universe suffered a pretty hefty blow when the talented and versatile Tom Hardy had to drop out of next year’s ‘Suicide Squad’.  Hardy had been cast as Rick Flagg, the military operative in charge of supervising the team of not-so-reformed super villains tasked with executing the U.S. government’s black ops missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.

Unfortunately, Hardy was in the process of shooting the beleaguered ‘The Revenant’, whose shooting stretched on for months longer than anticipated when the crew, among other issues, had to scour for snowy shooting locations.  As a result of this protracted filming, Hardy was forced to drop out of DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’.  And Hardy was not happy about it!

“Was I bummed? Of course, I was. I hate fucking losing work. I kept bemoaning that they were losing me significant money on a daily basis. Actually, it was good for my character.”

There had been rumors that Hardy had had issues with ‘Suicide Squad’ director David Ayer and with his role in the movie, but the truth was that Hardy, who played the major heavy in ‘The Revenant’ was simply unavailable.  And he let it be known!

But there are hopes that Hardy will receive awards notice for his turn in ‘The Revenant’ but he was passed over for the Golden Globes.

With his rugged physique and brooding intensity, Hardy would most likely be a welcome addition to any comic book movie.  Surely, he will get another opportunity soon.

In the meantime, fans can catch him in both ‘The Revenant’ and in a dual role as twin mobsters in ‘Legend’.  Both movies are based on true stories.

‘Suicide Squad’ (Minus Tom Hardy), directed by David Ayer, stars: Will Smith, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Common, Ike Barinholtz, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, Jim Parrack and Karen Fukuhara.  It will be released will be released on August 5th, 2016.
