Marvel is on the news train lately with tidbits of information about their upcoming Netflix series, ‘Luke Cage.’ After confirming Alfe Woodard‘s role in the series, now they have released a list of characters for the upcoming superhero show, with descriptions of each and quotes from Executive Producer and Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb to give us some insight into how they see each character fitting into the show.

First off we have Misty Knight, played by Simone Missick (‘Ray Donovan’), a hardshell Harlem police detective dead-set on finding out what is going on with the new hero in town, Luke Cage. According to Loeb:

“We know fans have waited years to see Misty Knight brought to life, so we had to find the right actress…Simone blew us away with her performance as the strong-willed cop on a mission.”

Second comes Shades, played by Theo Rossi (‘Sons of Anarchy’), a figure out of Luke Cage’s past, who is currently active in Harlem as a ruthless criminal. In the words of Cheo Hodari Coker, series Executive Producer and Showrunner:

“Theo Rossi is a swiss army knife–no matter what you bring to him, he has a tool for it–and he’s playfully unpredictable…His Shades will be someone you hate to love.”

Third we have Rafael Scarfe, played by Frank Whaley (‘Ray Donovan’), another police detective who partners with Misty Knight to hunt down Luke Cage. Coker in particular seems to think very highly of Whaley’s portrayal:

“Frank Whaley has a wiry intensity that he’s imbued in Det. Rafael Scarfe…He’s a great counterpart to Misty, and a wonderful actor.”

Lastly we have Claire Temple, played by Rosario Dawson (‘Daredevil’), returning to her role from ‘Daredevil,’ this time potentially having a more prominent role due to her friendship and potential romantic endeavors with Cage. Loeb seems especially happy to have to her back:

“We are thrilled to have Rosario in another one of our television series. Her performance as Claire Temple in Marvel’s Daredevil was astonishing and we can’t wait to see her shine in Marvel’s Luke Cage.”

And of course, here is the series description for anyone unaware of what Luke Cage is all about:

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
