90s kids knew there was one place to turn for PG-rated thrills and chills, R.L. Stine‘s ‘Goosebumps’ book series.  Before Harry Potter, ‘Goosebumps’ were the It literary craze that swept the middle school crowd and spawned a number one rated TV series.

It may have taken a while, but now ‘Goosebumps’ will be taking possession of movie theaters this Fall as a big budget feature film.

Jack Black plays a fictionalized version of real life creator Stine with Odeya Rush playing his teenage daughter Hannah.  Dylan Minnette plays the new kid in town, Zach Cooper, who discovers that something weird is going on in the Stine house.  When Zach and his bumbling friend, played by Ryan Lee– a ‘Goosebumps’ superfan– break in to snoop, they accidentally release all of the ghoulish fiends from Stine’s books who go on a horrific rampage.

Stine and the kids must scramble to round up these specters before they do too much damage and lock them up in their books where they belong.

And what ‘Goosebumps’ menaces can you expect to see on the big screen?  The real life Stine assured, “All the early monsters that are in the books [are in the film]. They all come out, they’re all there. The real evil one is Slappy the Dummy, he’s there, the Abominable Snowman from Pasadena is there, and lawn gnomes, HUNDREDS of lawn gnomes. They’re great, they’re really good.”

The original Slappy the Dummy was scarier than some of the ghouls in grown up horror movies, but the version in the new movie is less hideous-looking.

See?  Kinda?
