SPOILER ALERT! Turn back now if you are planning to go into ‘Terminator Genisys‘ without any prior knowledge of the plotline!
Ramping up their advertising for ‘Terminator Genisys,’ Paramount is attempting to capitalize of their July 4th weekend release of the latest installment in the franchise, hoping to be able to compete with the blockbuster behemoths ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘ and ‘Jurassic World,’ especially in the international market where most of our movies are making money nowadays. With that in mind, they have released 4 new international TV Spots, chock full of new shots and spoilers for the upcoming ‘Terminator’ romp, and finally explaining that pesky word, “Genisys.”
For everyone who thought “Genisys” as a word was annoying and dumb, it seems that might have been the point, as it is the name of the APP Cyberdine creates that eventually leads to Judgement Day (and we all know apps have historically contained some stupid names). We also learn in the TV spots that the new terminator claims to be “more than machine, more than man.” Also cool is we have our first shot of elderly robot Arnold taking on a younger Arnold T-800 robot, and the from the spot, the CGI on the young T-800 doesn’t look completely terrible. We also get some nice throw-back shots of what seems to be a new T-1000 robot, complete with metal morphing abilities, paying homage to ‘Terminator: Judgement Day.’
So from all of this, it seems that the story is that the ‘Genisys’ app is released to the public by Cyberdine Industries heralded as a “killer app” (a little on the nose for my tastes) that promises to “revolutionize technology.” I enjoy the part about bringing the franchise up to speed on modern tech, but a little subtly goes a long way, especially as the movie leaves no mystery about this “amazing” app and I feel like when we watch the movie we’re all just going to be waiting for Genisys to launch the missiles that start the robot revolution.
Look for ‘Terminator: Genisys’ to hit theaters on July 1st, 2015, and let us know in the comments your thoughts on the trailer.
