Before you get your hopes up, Lando Calrissian will be returning but not for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ Instead, he’ll be back in a brand new Marvel Star Wars comic! Not only is he back, but he’s been written by Charles Soule who has been having a blast at taking on some of Marvel’s biggest titles so I can’t wait to see his take on the only scoundrel we know who could pull a fast one on Han Solo.
I. Cannot. Wait!
Charles Soule jumped in to share his excitement on the project by saying, “Is Lando Calrissian the coolest character in all of Star Wars? Depends on who you ask, probably. But if you ask me, the answer is yes, and I plan to prove it with this story.”
I can guarantee you that this will be added to my pull list when it drops at my local shop in July. With art by Alex Maleev (‘Daredevil’) we’re going to be seeing some of Lando’s back story take shape.
The book is set to take place prior to ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ so we can see a little more of how he was prior to running Cloud City. According to Soule we’ll see Calrissian as “a man trying to make his way through an uncaring universe determined not to recognize that he was undeniably the coolest man in the galaxy.” This all takes place “Before Cloud City, before his glorious Death Star run” and his plan to change all of that all “starts with the deal of a lifetime.”
It sounds like they plan on making him the ‘Star Wars’ equivalent of Star-Lord in last year’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Oddly enough, I feel slightly okay with that. This will also be the fifth book coming out from Marvel set in that era with two more books scheduled to be released in the ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ tie-ins. All of that being said, I suppose he’ll be more in line with his recent ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ adventures more than anything else.
