A new rumor recently surfaced about ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ that stated the film would be split into two parts with Part One coming out later this year. Latino Review broke the news when they received the blurry screenshot above from “a person claiming to have an iPhone video of the teaser for Batman v Superman.” As you can see, the image shows the titles and release dates for the upcoming DC Entertainment films. However, the Man of Steel himself chimed in on the report recently and confirmed the actual plans for Zack Snyder’s tentpole sequel.
During a BAFTA event in Beverly Hills over the weekend, Henry Cavill disclosed to Variety that the rumor about Warner Bros. splitting the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel into two parts is completely false. Before praising co-star Ben Affleck as Batman and joking that he wouldn’t sustain injuries during fight scenes because he’s Superman, the actor debunked the internet chatter by saying that ‘Dawn of Justice’ would still be released as one film.
But would splitting the movie into to parts really be a bad thing? Judging by all the information we’ve been hearing about the next film in DC’s cinematic universe, there’s a lot going on and a whole lot of characters to introduce. Though the studio may take some flack for jumping on the franchise-extending bandwagon like ‘The Hobbit,’ ‘Harry Potter,’ and ‘The Hunger Games,’ it might actually benefit ‘Batman v Superman’ to be presented in two parts so that we could be introduced to Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, and all the villains without being rushed through plot points to get to the big city-destroying battles. Despite the official word being that the film will still be released in one piece, maybe the studio shouldn’t throw the idea out the window completely just yet.
What do you think about ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ remaining one film instead of being split into two? Would you rather get the story all at once or do you think that the narrative would benefit from getting a little room to breathe? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
