While we’ve known that each of the next three sequels to ‘Avatar’ would have their own high-profile writer, it was finally confirmed who will be writing which of the upcoming films. This is almost a year after announcing which of the scribes were even attached in the first place! These are all set to be based off of the initial outlines from when James Cameron wrote the main stories all at once.

So who will be writing each installment?

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver who are responsible for ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ and the upcoming ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ are creating the script for ‘Avatar 2’. Josh Friedman who created ‘War of the Worlds’ for Spielberg will be working on ‘Avatar 3’. Finally, Shane Salerno who worked on ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ and ‘Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem’ will be tackling the final movie. The writers also, of course, worked with Cameron as well as author Steven Charles Gould who is set to pen the 4 Avatar novels.

Hopefully one of these writers had a good reason for Sigourney Weaver returning as an entirely different character.

Between you and me, I’m still not sure why it took this long for the studios to let us know who would be behind each of the movies with how long we’ve already known which writers were involved. The first sequel is due in 2016 and there is a lot riding on it as a follow up for the highest grossing film of all time. While the first one was a feast for the eyes, many have felt that the movie itself fell flat with a plot that was a little too familiar and characters that were two dimensional in a work of stunning 3D cinematography.

Do you think the new influx of writing talent will help flesh out the characters so that the plot can live up to the amazing visuals? On top of that, will we see another record breaking movie or after the delay and weak plot from the first ‘Avatar,’ will sequels fall flat at the box office? Share your thoughts below!
