Forget ‘Man of Steel 2’ or even ‘Batman Vs. Superman’.  Zack Snyder’s follow up to his Superman reboot is officially titled ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ as revealed in this just released logo.  The ultimate super hero clash will hit theaters on May 6, 2016 and stars Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Lawrence Fishburn as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.  Making their debuts will be Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth as well as Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto in undisclosed roles.

The “V” as opposed to “Vs” is interesting but has a precedence in that this is the legal term for “versus.”  The major point to note is, of course, the subtitle “Dawn of Justice.”  Obviously, this is a reference to the already-a-given ‘Justice League‘ movie, already being seeded in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ with the inclusion of Wonder Woman and Cyborg.

Some are unhappy that this seems to diminish this movie, making it more of a set up for the next:

Another title mentioned in the same vein was ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ pointing out that the title seemed to indicate that the first ‘Cap’ was just a set up to ‘The Avengers’.  But watching the film, it was ALL about Cap.  The post-credit sequence was the only part that set up ‘The Avengers’ but that can be said about every other post-credit sequence before the big team movie.  DC is clearly fast-tracking the process by not giving each character their own movie beforehand, but they have a lot of ground to make up.

Are you happy with the title of this movie?  If you’re disappointed, let me just point out that a terrible name doesn’t mean the actual movie will suck.  ‘X2: X-Men United’ is a pretty awful title, but it was (so far) the best X-Men movie.
