As you may or may not have heard, Yahoo! has entered the race for long-form shows, much like Netflix and Hulu are doing. Recently the company announced the first two original comedies in their new lineup. While one of the new shows is based on a fictional pro basketball expansion team, it’s the other that we are excited about!
The other series, well, let’s take a look at this direct quote from the Yahoo! Tumblr site to explain it!
“Other Space: From three-time Emmy nominee Paul Feig (‘Freaks and Geeks’, ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘The Office’) comes Other Space, a galactic adventure set in the early 22nd century, when the human race has mapped most of the known universe, failed to find alien life, and frankly gotten a little tired of the whole thing. A spaceship on a routine collection mission stumbles into the greatest discovery in history: an alternate universe, far stranger and way more dangerous than ours. Now the ship’s crew — a collection of over-matched rookies, feuding siblings, burned-out veterans and obsolete robots — has to explore this new universe to try and find a way back home alive. (8 half-hour episodes)”
Call me silly, but this shows sounds a little like the television series ‘Sliders’. I was a big fan of that show. Oh calm down, it was a great show! It was a guilty pleasure, silly, campy, but action-packed and fun with a big slice of sci-fi goodness on the side.
So obviously they have my undivided attention, so if you wish to tune in as I do, you won’t be looking to your cable provider. Both series will launch on Yahoo Screen next year in 30-minute episodes you can watch at one time on your desktop, the Yahoo Screen mobile app, or on Apple TV and Roku.
