While promoting her new horror flick ‘Oculus‘, the former ‘Doctor Who’ actress Karen Gillan spoke briefly about her other big upcoming role, that of cosmic baddie Nebula in the next Marvel movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. Though these movies are usually shrouded in secrecy, Gillan did mention a few notable elements about her character.
According to Gillan, Nebula is “a bit of the sadist, she enjoys what she does, and what she does isn’t very nice.” She also stated that she would be working with Ronan the Accuser who is played by Lee Pace in the movie, “They’re the bad guys of the film,” she states. She went on to reveal, “My character has a really interesting relationship with Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana. they have a lot of history and backstory. And [Nebula] has a lot of reasons for what she’s doing to [Gamora].”
The actress admits to having read ‘The Infinity Gauntlet’ in order to prepare for the movie, but is a bit dodgy in discussing Nebula’s possible connection to Thanos, the cosmic uber-villain teased during the mid-credit sequence in ‘The Avengers’. “She does claim to be the granddaughter of Thanos. It’s been slightly altered for the film. I won’t give anything away, but there’s an element of that.” So far, it doesn’t seem as if Thanos will surface in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ever since his cameo, there’s been nearly nothing revealed about where he’ll appear next.

It sounds like this next Marvel movie is stirring up lots of interest, despite the relative obscurity of the source comics and the cast made up of more mid-tier actors. Will this film carry on Marvel’s winning streak?
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ starring Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, and Michael Rooker blasts off on August 1st, 2014.
