The evil robot Ultron is a pretty hot commodity these days. Not only did he star in Brian Michael Bendis’ crossover event ‘Age of Ultron‘, but he also lends his name to the highly anticipated Joss Whedon sequel, ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, where he will be played by James Spader. However, not many fans were very receptive the angry AI’s recent comic book storyline. In fact, a lot of people were just plain let down. They may have found themselves asking, “What if this were any good?” Well, now Marvel Comics themselves are asking the same question to some degree because next month they will be releasing ‘What If? Age of Ultron’ #1.
Continuing in the tradition of ‘What If?’ books, this brand new series will reimagine ‘Age of Ultron’ by exploring how different the story would have been if one thing were changed. Up and coming writer Joe Keatinge will provide the story and he will be joined by some of the hottest artists in the business today, such as Raffaele Ienco for the first issue. I like the idea that each issue looks at what would happen in ‘Age of Ultron’ if a different member of the Avengers wasn’t part of the story. It’s uncertain right now how many issues this will run, but I imagine that Wolverine, She-Hulk, and Captain America would be interesting characters to take out and see how things unfold.
