It seems like trailers are becoming commonplace for comic books as much as they are for movies and television these days. Marvel often rolls out a teaser for their big events like the upcoming crossover ‘Infinity’ or the original graphic novel ‘Spider-Man: Family Business’. Now, it appears that Dark Horse is following suit by releasing a trailer for their latest ‘Star Wars’ series based on George Lucas’ original draft of the screenplay that became ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’.
Back in April, it was announced that Dark Horse Comics would be releasing ‘The Star Wars’, an eight-issue limited series based on Lucas’ first rough draft of his iconic tale from May 1974. The company brought on writer J.W. Rinzler and artist Mike Mayhew to bring this movie that never was to life in the pages of a comic book. So with the release of the first issue rapidly approaching, this trailer was released to show some of the differences between the story that generations have come to love and what was originally conceived in Lucas’ head. While we get to see some characters such as Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker, there are also other recognizable names set to appear in the series as well such as Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Also, rather than lightsabers, the Sith and Jedi wield “lazer swords”. Since we’re all so familiar with the version of the story that eventually made it to the screen, it’ll be very interesting to see what could have been. Or, in the words of Mayhew, we could be reading “the greatest ‘what if?’ story ever in comics”.

The first issue of ‘The Star Wars’ will be released on September 4, 2013.
